MESA JAZZ TRIO
Malik, Cliff & John were good friends in Philly in the 70’s. They studied and made music together back then. Unfortunately for John & Cliff, Malik left Philadelphia and settled in Tucson. John and Cliff continued to work together in Philly, and kept in touch with Malik throughout the years. Recently they were lucky to reunite in Arizona, and record this beautiful record, with tunes written by Malik and John.
MALIK ALKABIR - SAX
Attended Settlement Music School, Temple University and the Sahara School Of Music, mastering the tenor saxophone, flutes, clarinet and oboe. Lectured and performed at Syracuse University, Ohio University, University of California, the American School in Tangier and Rabat, Morocco and Cultural Embassies in Tunisia and France. Performed on radio and television throughout the United States (NET, ABC, CBS), in France (ORTF) and Morocco (RTM). MALIK has performed and recorded with Alan Silva, Major Harris, Peggy Lee, The Blue Notes, Don Patterson, and Anthony Braxton. MALIK has also participated in the Villanova Jazz Festival, The Gent Advan't Garde Festival in Belgium,The Festival Of Chatelleraut & The Fete De Humanite in France, and the Doolon Jazz Festival in Holland.
CLIFF KELLEM - BASS
Has performed with a variety of jazz artists including John Blake, Christian Sands, Willie Williams, Byard Lancaster and George Benson. He worked in the 1980s with several casino orchestras performing with such headliners as, Vic Damone, Jerry Lewis, Shirley Bassey, Petula Clark, George Burns, Bill Cosby, and Flip Wilson. He toured South America with singer Billy Paul. Mr. Kellem most recently toured with best-selling author James McBride. He can be heard on recordings with Barbara Montgomery, Cornell Rochester, Vanessa Handy, Hot News, Monet Sudler and MusiQology.
JOHN McCULLOUGH - PIANO
John Mc Cullough has enjoyed a successful career spanning 30 years. After joining the Paul Christopher Trio in 1978, he toured the US for 6 years. Since returning to Phila. he has held full-time positions in some of Philadelphia's finest hotels and managed the musical programs at several respected venues. He established Liberty Music in 2001. "Falling Up" is John's fourth completed recording project. His particapation in these recordings included performing, production, and composition.
